statue

With the controversy about the statues on the Market Street Bridge, http://chattanoogan.com/articles/article_162443.asp
I was reminded of a poem I wrote about another Chattanooga Statue. This poem appeared in my chapbook, First Days.

D’a-lal

Immodest she stands
Nude
Before the museum
Jaybird naked
In front of God
And everyone

Her bronze constitution
Has made her immune
To summer’s heat
And winter’s cold
To the stares of
Prudish visitors

Though I am certain
She is lovely as
The original
She is unaware
Of her audience
Wholly unresponsive
